Printeez operates two separate production locations, one in the US and one in Canada. When a customer places an order, Printeez automatically routes it to the correct location based on the shipping destination.
This means your US and Canada inventory levels are tracked independently, and it is important to set up your Shopify product correctly so your storefront always shows accurate availability to customers in each country.
How Printeez Handles US and Canada Orders
Printeez Canada and Printeez US are two separate catalogs and fulfillment locations. Orders are automatically filtered by destination, US orders go to Printeez US, Canadian orders go to Printeez Canada. This is not configurable; Printeez controls this routing entirely.
- Products are mapped separately: you need to map a US blank and a Canadian blank independently in the Listing Manager
- Stock levels are tracked per location: a product can be in stock in the US and out of stock in Canada at the same time
- Printeez will not cross-border fulfill: if a product is out of stock in Canada, Printeez will not produce it in the US and ship it to Canada, the order simply will not go through
- It works like two businesses: you have access to both sides through one Shopify store, but each country manages its own inventory and fulfillment
Step 1 — Map Your Product in the Listing Manager
In the Printeez Listing Manager (Stores — ... — Settings — Product Sync Settings), find the product you want to sell in both countries. You need to map a separate blank for each location:
- Open the product in the Listing Manager and click on Map variants to edit the sync settings.
- Map your US blank to the Shopify product variants for US sizes and colors.
- Map your Canadian blank separately, select the equivalent blank available in the Canadian catalog.
- Save the mapping.
The product will now track inventory for both locations independently.
If a color or size is available in the US catalog but not in the Canadian catalog, those variants will show as unavailable or not stocked for Canadian customers.
Step 2 — Enable Inventory Tracking in Printeez
Before configuring Shopify, make sure inventory tracking is enabled on the Printeez side. This setting tells Printeez to push real-time stock levels to your Shopify store.
5. In Printeez, go to Stores — ... — Settings.
6. Click Product Sync Settings.
7. In the Product Sync Settings panel that opens, check Track Inventory.
8. Click Save settings.
Once Track Inventory is enabled, Printeez will automatically update your Shopify inventory levels whenever stock changes at either the US or Canada location.
Step 3 — Configure Inventory Tracking in Shopify
For inventory levels to display correctly on your Shopify storefront, the product must also have the right tracking settings on the Shopify side. Go to your Shopify product page and check the following for each variant:
- Track quantity: must be turned ON, this tells Shopify to display stock levels per location
- Continue selling when out of stock: must be turned OFF, if this is enabled, Shopify will allow customers to add out-of-stock items to their cart, which will cause problems when Printeez cannot fulfill the order
With both settings configured correctly, variants that are out of stock in a given location will show as unavailable to customers ordering from that region.
Step 4 — Match Each Fulfillment Location to the Right Shipping Zone
Each Printeez fulfillment location must be assigned to its own shipping zone in Shopify. If both locations share the same zone, Shopify will show combined inventory to all customers regardless of where they are ordering from, which leads to inaccurate stock display and potential fulfillment errors.
The correct setup is:
- Fulfillment location: Printeez Canada: Shipping zone: Canada
- Fulfillment location: Printeez USA: Shipping zone: United States
To verify or correct this, go to Shopify Settings — Shipping and Delivery — and open your shipping profile:
- Check which shipping zones each Printeez location is assigned to.
- If Printeez Canada and Printeez USA are in the same zone, create separate zones: one for Canada assigned to Printeez Canada, and one for United States assigned to Printeez USA.
- Make sure each zone includes only the country it is intended for, Canada in the Canada zone, United States in the US zone.
- Add the appropriate shipping rates to each zone, then save your changes.
Once each location is matched to its own shipping zone, Shopify will display the correct inventory to customers based on their country.
Step 5 — Use Shopify Markets to Control Variant Visibility
Shopify Markets let you control which products and variants are visible and purchasable in each country. Once your shipping profiles are set up correctly, you can use Markets to hide colors or sizes that are not available in one location, so your storefront looks clean.
To remove a variant from a market:
- Go to your Shopify product page and click Bulk Edit.
- Find the location columns for the market you want to adjust in the bulk editor.
- For any color or size that is not available in that location, set the inventory to 0 and uncheck that market for the variant.
- Save your changes.
The result is that customers in each country only see the colors and sizes that are actually available to them, no greyed-out options, no confusing sold-out variants that they cannot order anyway.
What a Correctly Configured Store Looks Like
- US customers: see the full range of colors and sizes available in the US catalog, with accurate stock levels
- Canadian customers: see only the colors and sizes available in the Canadian catalog, and out-of-stock items do not appear
- Orders route automatically: Printeez receives US orders from Printeez US and Canadian orders from Printeez Canada, with no manual routing required
- No cross-border errors: a customer in Canada cannot place an order for a product that Printeez Canada cannot fulfill
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Printeez produce a US product and ship it to Canada?
No. Printeez does not cross-border fulfill. If a product is out of stock in the Printeez Canada catalog, the order will not go through. You need to map a Canadian blank for any product you want to sell in Canada.
What happens if I don't separate my shipping zones?
If your Printeez Canada and Printeez US locations are in the same shipping zone, Shopify may show combined inventory to all customers. This can allow Canadian customers to appear to add out-of-stock or US-only items to their cart, which will cause fulfillment errors.
What is 'Continue selling when out of stock' and why must it be off?
This Shopify setting allows customers to purchase a product even when inventory is at zero. It must be turned off for Printeez products because Printeez cannot fulfill orders for items it does not have in stock, enabling this setting will result in orders that cannot be produced.
Can I sell a product in Canada that only has a US blank?
No. Each product sold in Canada must be mapped to a blank available in the Printeez Canada catalog. If no equivalent Canadian blank exists, the product can only be sold in the US.
Do I need separate Shopify products for US and Canada?
No. One Shopify product listing can serve both markets. You map your US blank and Canadian blank to the same product, and Shopify Markets controls which variants are visible to customers in each country.
What if a color is available in the US but not in Canada?
That color's variants will show as not stocked for Canadian customers once your inventory tracking and shipping profiles are correctly configured. You can also remove those variants from the Canadian market using Bulk Edit so they do not appear at all on your Canadian storefront.
